Starting a full time job in IBD in Jersey City?

I just received a FT offer in the IBD of a bank. Great culture and team based on the people I met in my interview process, and base salary should be street level with manageable hours

One downside is that the office is based in Jersey City so I’m thinking it could be kind of far to commute to the office from NYC. Has anyone commuted from NYC to Jersey City?

I could also rent a studio in Jersey City or Hoboken when I start.

Any thoughts?

Congrats on the new job

Is your new group possibly a function that supports ibd? I have not come across any major IB groups that are based in Jersey city

Agree with above, be careful. "Investment banking operations" or something of that type is not IB and will have very limited exit opportunities. Don't know of any investment banks in JC.

That said you should definitely live in NJ, at least for the first year and then decide if you want to live in Manhattan (/ get a job there). Take the train over to go out / on weekends, but you'll pay at least 30% more in rent + an additional 5-6% of income tax right off the top just to live in NYC. Waste of money when the train is so quick.
