State Legislative Internship--Good Idea?

Hey Monkeys wanted your opinions. I am having a difficult time getting an IB internship as a sophomore and have been reaching out to boutique banks. However I was just accpeted to a State Legislative Internship, now I know this is better then having nothing. I would work with officials within the legislative and treasury departments. If I was to accept the internship how would I spin it towards an IB internship. I would think it is also a great chance to network with top officials but I am not sure if I am right. What do you guys think?

Go for it.

I interned for a US Senator last summer and just accepted a S&T SA job at a BB so it can be done. Don't worry so much about "networking with top officials" because they probably won't care about you - just enjoy the experience. As far as how to spin it for IB, you can use it to show that you're well-rounded and interesting and can differentiate yourself from the "finance is my life" types. At the SA level, firms want to hire people who are smart enough to do the job and interesting enough to the point that they enjoy (or can at least tolerate) you being around. Just make sure you have a good answer for "why finance, this bank, ibd, etc. and you'll be good to go.
