Step-by-Step Process for Getting Ahead on Technicals

As an incoming sophomore, I have so much time on my hands and really want to be effective in learning the “why’s” behind technicals to learn and not cram/memorize last minute. I feel like most kids aren’t as prepared or interested at this time, so I’d like to get a leg up. Can anyone who’s gone thru the recruiting process shed some advice as to what they would do for kids in my position? I’d appreciate a guide that tentatively maps month by month where I should be. Assume minimal/elementary technical knowledge. I know the general resources (BIWS 400, Rosenbaum, etc), but I feel like there could be a more structured way of approaching to learn the why’s to better be prepared to answer niche or critical thinking questions. Even just talking amongst my peers, a structured process for learning technicals for kids w/ free time during freshman summer is highly coveted, so anyone with free time to map this out would be extremely appreciated. I’m just trying to avoid inefficiency of brute force and trial and error.

Just buy the WSO course with some homies and bang that out for 5 hours a week. Read financial news outlets on the way into class/work every morning/night.

WSO is probably the wrong place to be asking this kind of question. You’re better off networking with juniors/seniors who have already been involved in internships, or with alumni in the industry. You’ll get a more personalised response and create an opportunity to build relationships that will help you during application/interview season.
