Strategy - Graduating this May from a West Coast non-target

So I am graduating this May from a West Coast non-target. I am ideally looking to get into IB (I know, I know) and have been working tirelessly at networking and pursuing all opportunities that I could potentially leverage to my advantage. I have internships and have exhausted the leads I had. So far, I'm not getting ib interviews. So, my question is, would it be likely to transition into IB or a buy-side position after working a stint at a reputable research and rating group? Has anyone done this or heard a similar story? Thanks.
