Super non-target wanting boutique IB internship

Hey guys, I go to a super non-target school in the northeast and wanted to get a boutique IB internship. How should I go about finding boutiques, contacting them, and asking for an (unpaid) internship? Should I reach out to every boutique and ask for an internship right off the bat? I am a freshman, so I don't have too much knowledge in terms of technicals.

Do a search on here for networking or how to land an internship. There are detailed guides

Concise advice:

- any thought to transferring to a semi target or target? will be much easier

- there is a boutique list on here if you search. gotta be 10+ years old but a good start. can also trawl the internet for "town" investment banking, see what comes up

- look up how to cold email and network, but you try to get people on the phone. a lot of boutiques will say no, it's a hassle having an intern even unpaid, but maybe you'll find someone who says yes

- learn technicals, have a real story down for why you want to do banking and why that person should help you

Excellent advice, thank you! Transferring will be hard, mainly because of how low transfer acceptance rates have gotten. I bought the Rosenbaum and Pearl book- if I study that, would I be fine for a freshman SA role? I am a freshman, so I haven't taken many business classes outside of gen ed's.

Semi target rates are pretty high, agree that targets are really low.

Skip the Rosenbaum book, too detailed/dense IMO. Google 400 M&I questions and work through those - if you can walk through accounting statements, talk about a DCF, have some basic idea of a model structure that's a better start than spending months reading a really long book.

I'll look into transferring, and I will also look at the 400Q M&I guide (I think I just found a pdf of it). I found a local boutique with 17 people- if I were to reach out to them, should I talk to the Managing Partner, or should I talk to their analyst/associate?
