Switch from Tech to Finance?

Hey there, After some time in VC and now in a VC-backed tech startup in a commercial role, I’m considering the switch to a Finance role - ideally PE. I have 4 years of work experience, no IB or consulting.

Any tips and tricks? What are the chances of making it? Should I even try?

depending on pedigree, you could have a shot at an operating/portfolio role, but an investing role is pretty unlikely without a ib/consulting background

Two main reasons:

  • I like investing more than an operating role. I’m quite advanced in financial modeling and deal searching, execution and DD is what gets me excited;
  • Current total comp is way lower vs my peers in PE/IB, although working hours are quite similar.

I’d be even willing to take an analyst role to start off.
