Switch from Tech to Finance?
Hey there, After some time in VC and now in a VC-backed tech startup in a commercial role, I’m considering the switch to a Finance role - ideally PE. I have 4 years of work experience, no IB or consulting.
Any tips and tricks? What are the chances of making it? Should I even try?
depending on pedigree, you could have a shot at an operating/portfolio role, but an investing role is pretty unlikely without a ib/consulting background
Why the switch if you don’t mind me asking
Two main reasons:
I’d be even willing to take an analyst role to start off.
very few PE funds hire analysts even, the ones that due recruit out of top schools and EVR/PJT type summer analyst programs. your best bet would be to lateral to IB or consulting, spend a year or two there, then recruit for PE imo
