Switching from Law (India) to Finance
Hello everyone, I'm a 22 year old law student from India (still studying). After some thorough research online as well as a perusal of the CFA syllabus and course material (which I borrowed from a friend), I'm contemplating switching to Core Finance (Non-legal) roles in the near future.
Being in the final year of law school (BA. LLB. (Honours) 5-year course), I'm planning to enrol for the CFA Level 1 exams as a means to attain some leverage to justify making the switch. At the same time, I realise that a CFA L1 may not prove to be a sufficient qualification to demonstrate adequate financial acumen to break into the core-finance industry. Also, I am keen on settling abroad and thus want to want to pursue a Master's degree in North America / EU / UK / Australia to further my overall prospects.
What type of Master's degree should I be looking at:
(1) Msc. Finance;
(2) Msc. in Law and Finance;
(3) LLM. with a concentration on Finance / Business law;
(4) Any other?
PS -
a) I am using the term "core-finance" to denote that I am willing to keep myself open for all types of industries and/or roles as long as these are related to the world of finance and not law.
b) I want to do pursue an MBA later on, i.e., after having some industry-specific experience. In India, a law degree is taught at the undergraduate level (right after high school/senior secondary school) and as I am yet to graduate (Batch of 2021), I do not have any work experience except for a few legal internships (which are not related to finance whatsoever).
I would really appreciate all the advice and insight I can get. Thanks!
