Take a 30% Paycut and Become a Super-Commuter or Remain Unemployed?
Was an IB Associate before getting laid off. Been searching for work in the past six months but the job market has been insanely competitive. Had several final rounds with IBs / CorpDevs but no luck.
Finally got a verbal offer recently to do buyside m&a but with a 30% base pay cut (~50% cut TC) and would require me to commute between two cities every week (since I have a lease in the current city and new job requires some weekly in-person days). I am debating if I should take the offer, as my unemployment benefits will run out in three months.
What do you guys think? Would appreciate any advice / thoughts.
What cities do you have to commute between?
Atlanta and DC, two hours one way
So your schedule goes like
Week 1: Work in Atlanta
Week 2: Work in WashIngton
Week 3: Atlanta
Etc…?
Seems kind of exhausting, how do you pay for housing and flights?
You need to include numbers. % don’t help here.
are you paying out of pocket for your own flights? If not - that is a huge cost that outnumbers a lease cancellation.
I was paid based on Street standard.
Yes flights will be out of pocket - ~1k a month probably, early lease termination for me will be 9k
Sublet?
It doesn’t sound like it’s worth it
