Taking a Pay Cut and Job Searching in a new city or state.

Long Story. I want a stepping stone job to taking me from my underwhelming low paying work to a higher paying line of work. The current job I'm in has barriers to doing things that require more responsibility and does not provide any development even  when I seek them out as I've been doing for a while.

Right now I have the pleasure of living on $750 a month with a roomate and walking to work in 10 minutes. Moving to a bigger bank could yield about 5-10k increase more in salary, or 30k if I look at SF. The problem is that by moving I'll move to a city with more traffic and a longer commute time while probably having to dish out an additional $600-700 to live with a roomate. Even in low COL areas one bedroom apartments are turning out to be $1,400 and I have to suck it and take a new lease. Any salary gains would dissapear and after taxes and other expenses I'd end up having 2-4k less in dissposable income. California...

Its a move based on the hopes that it will get me somewhere further, and if it doesn't well I'm screwed. I lwill lose a stable job in a low COL area with relaxing scenary. It seems dumb but how else can I even put myself in the playing field or a higher paying job in corp fin?

I need ideas on where to move to. I'm thinking of making the drive cross country to the east coast. Covid has presented a hiring opportunity since I can do interviews on video, but recruiters still might shut me down for not being local or being able to" start the next day."

How I can I eliminate the barrier to landing a job far away?
