Thank you email after getting dinged?

If you don't send a thank you email straight away, but get rejected after a Second Round, do you think it is a good idea to send an email to your interviewers thanking them?

If so, what sort of things should you say?

There's no point in sending a thank you email after a rejection (before you even got second rounds) - just let it go.

The only thing that can be useful after a ding is if you ask them for feedback on the phone. In some rare cases (most suitable for after superday dings), you may be able to convince them to keep you in mind, should another spot open up, or if other regional offices are still hiring. This can only be done if you were really likable and just got edged out by the ones given offers.

I think on this board there was a post where a guy was really well-liked, but didn't get the offer. Months later, the same group was hiring - he called them, interviewed again, and got the offer.

Okay... The problem is that I thought I clicked well with a couple of the interviewers (they told me at the time that they liked me) - is there anything they (VP+) could do to help (I guess in other ways as obviously they had a say in me getting dinged)? If not, then to be honest I won't bother.
