Too late?
From what I’ve seen this is probably the 1000th “Am I too late for IB?” post on WSO but here goes. I’m a rising junior who is only now becoming interested in finance. I just got my AA from a community college and I’m finally transferring to a real college for my 4 year. This is kind of the first time I’ve really asked myself what I’m going to do in life. I haven’t yet taken any actual finance classes and obviously I have had no internships. To have even a fraction of a chance at internships I’m supposed to start applying now but that seems impossible as I don’t really have any finance knowledge yet. So should I give up on IB and focus my efforts elsewhere?
Also, there’s of course a chance that I’ll hate finance and want to do something else entirely, so I should jump the gun. But assuming I love it and set my sights on IB, will it then be too late (if it isn’t already)? Any advice would be highly appreciated.
And for the 1000th time, there are people who learn what IB is at 24 and start at 27. I personally know people who started at 28-30.
It is never too late.
Now depending on school brand, GS might be out of the question. But you can always learn technicals, reach out and start off with regional boutiques and work your way up.
Thanks so much. I really needed to hear that.
Just do a MsF if you can’t break in normally, but no it’s not too late to get into banking but probably is too late for top seats.
If you want IB just make it happen and be relentless. There are a million different paths and stories in, some more traveled and some less.
Stay hungry kid
