Trying for jobs in NYC

I'm currently studying Theoretical Physics in Trinity College Dublin and I'm really interested in getting some sort of intership in NYC over the summer in something finance related (or even unrelated). I'm not sure what the best strategy for applying is, and where my best bets are. Any help appreciated, Charlie

Hey Charlie,

Based on the most helpful WSO content, I'd say your interest in finance is a great start! Now, let's talk strategy.

  1. Start by identifying your areas of interest within finance. This could be investment banking, private equity, or even real estate finance. This will help you narrow down the firms you want to apply to.

  2. Given your background in Theoretical Physics, you might find quantitative roles interesting. These roles often require strong mathematical and analytical skills.

  3. Networking is key. Try to connect with professionals in the industry. You can use platforms like LinkedIn or even the WSO Networking Guide to help with this.

  4. Apply to internships that align with your interests. There was a post about a NYC Capital Advisory Firm hiring interns. They specialize in real estate finance and offer hands-on exposure due to their small team size.

  5. Prepare for interviews. The WSO Academy offers resources on Investment Banking Prep, Behavioral Techniques, and more.

  6. Lastly, be open to all opportunities. The finance scene in NYC is vast and there are many different roles that you might find interesting.

Remember, the path to breaking into the NYC finance scene might not be easy, but with determination and the right resources, it's definitely possible. Good luck!
