undergrad senior at USC Marshall, no finance related background, how do I land a summer internship?

What’s up guys, I’m a senior at USC in the business school. Worked at startups in the past but never in finance. Feeling like I missed the boat.

Graduating December 2023 Starting my masters in finance at USC in 2024.

How should I go about recruiting for IB/PE? Do I try cold emailing to join a boutique firm and then join a BB next recruiting season?

You will not get looks if you don’t have any relevant experience, which at the moment you don’t. I suggest doing what you mentioned and network with boutiques. Once you have some kind of internship at a boutique, you will likely get a first round if you have a good gpa and a good resume. Also, taking courses and listing your certifications from these courses on your resume is also a good way to show banks that you’re set on IB.

Usc is definitely a target still so you shouldn’t have trouble with the name part, especially on the west coat but east coast is still definitely possible. Just get that experience and you’ll be good. Source: I went to USC and work in NYC for a large REPE firm.
