Unsolicited reference letters??

Hey guys,

Has anyone sent in a letter of recommendation to firms that never asked for one? I'm currently post-interview with a ~15 person small IB and pre-interview with a BB. Andy or Patrick is willing to write a letter for me as a reward for my internship with WSO.

My gut feeling is that sending it to a BB pre-interview would be kind of pointless, since they don't even know me and there is slim chance that the letter will be actually read. But I feel that the letter will definitely be read at the boutique and they already know me from the interview. I know they read my cover letter from top to bottom. I'm competing with only a handful of people for the internship, so I thought a letter might seal the deal. Yet, I'm not sure how an employer might feel about this. Would it come off as too desperate, or unnecessary?

Any inputs from people who have hired undergrads or other people who have sent in unsolicited letters?
