'We'll call you next week'

Finished a casual interview over beers with two partners of a PE/Property fund last Friday and all went well, it was my second interview and they were basically only testing me for fit, I am under the impression that I was the only person that got interviewed (pure resume cull)... yet it will be Friday tomorrow and I still haven't received a call, I am pretty sure they were moving offices this week but I am still confused. I called the partner I would be working with this morning to follow up on the status of the job and went straight to message, so I left a message and still didn't get a call back today.

I think it's pretty unfair to leave me in the lurch for a whole week regardless if I've got the job or not, should I give the partner another call tomorrow? Send a text? Call the PE partner? Start commiserating?

I just want to know, have had anxiety about the call all week.

Would just wait and call him/her on Monday.

I moved offices last year. Do you have any idea how much of a pain in the ass it is to breakdown and move your workstation while doing your job functions in real time??? I was sympathetic until you started bitching about how this was...unfair. Listen. LIFE IS UNFAIR. Get over it. He has bigger problems than some wannabe right now, cool your tits and hit him up after things settle down for them.

Jeez, can you be any more selfish?

You know what's unfair? Third world starvation. The plight of the Native Americans. $9BB worth of human slavery in the United States. Child murders in the inner city. Dictators raping a country's resources. THAT'S unfair. This guy is in the middle of a move and you're bitching and kvetching that a FUCKING PARTNER didn't call back a nobody....YET? Jesus, get over yourself. He's doing YOU the favor. Do you have any concept of how much is on this guy's plate?? For all you know, the guy is up to his eyeballs in logistical nightmares, putting fires out, trying to maintain continuity, and has a job to do.

Sorry, I had to say that. Give it another week and contact them again. They probably hit some bumps along the way and you're probably still in the running. You never know, maybe something came up. It would be nice if people emailed but really, they don't owe you anything. Welcome to finance, where people would sell your left nut for a buck.

I'm doing this for a reason, not because it's something I enjoy. Give a partner lip and watch how fast you get fired. Better you learn this on an anonymous website than in real life.

...that and I'm grouchy as hell before the coffee kicks in in the morning. Sorry about that. Seriously though, some of the kids that post on here are the most overentitled dicks I've ever seen, I don't know what they expect.

I just threw you a banana. Sorry to come down like a ton of bricks, that was pretty unnecessary. Realistically, wait a week and call him again. If he showed interest once, now you just have to remind them. Sometimes people get very busy or somthing happens.

Also: don't pester the guy too much but don't give up until he literally says "go away, I will not hire you" OR "ok, I'll hire you". Keep the relationship going even if they can't take you on now. Things can change very quickly, so one day he'll want to hang out, the next he's too busy to talk, then there's no room for you, then they might hire you. Just keep the communication going.
