What if SA recruiting was like applying to college?

Imagine a world where all SA applications opened simultaneously; interviews were in the same period, and firms coordinated to give you decisions on a specific date. I just think it's crazy how we are forced to choose our firm and lock everything down a year before our start date, and then firms use exploding offers to force you to make quick decisions without even knowing where you stand with other firms. The one thing I appreciated about the college applications process was how standardized everything was; knowing there would be an "Ivy-Day" and a "national decision day" made the process much less stressful. Let's set the probability of occurrence aside (yes, I know this will never happen); what are your thoughts on this for SA recruiting?
