What's the biggest turnaround (personal or professional) you pulled off in your life, and how did you do it?

Like the age-old cliche-but-quality interview question: "Tell me about a time you overcame adversity." Except you're pseudonymous on here and not battling HR. Just saying.

Came from a no-name place in America. It wasn't the best neighborhood but not the worst, still my life managed to revolve around the not so nice parts and people- just a kid trying to fit in with the crowd. To overcome this adversity I reflected on life and realized that this was leading me nowhere so I did what had to be done and left my comfort zone. I ended up at a pretty good school, not a target but I would assume a semi-target. I was pretty ignorant and had to figure out the ropes, social and career.

I overcame my challenge the way I did everything else, just doing what I have to do or putting myself in a situation where I can do what I need to do. I say both these things because awareness of the reality of your situation and environment is important. You need to know what you can deal with and what you cant deal with, along with what you should and shouldn't deal with.
