What's the next move?

I've recently finished my first semester of my freshmen year at a regional target school. Over this summer I won't be studying abroad as I can't afford it, and I don't want to go back to my job as a lifeguard.

I'm really looking for the opportunity to take on a banking internship or a PWM internship this summer. I've been studying the Breaking Into Wall Street IB course but won't finish over the break and will probably be studying it throughout the next semester to develop the skills necessary to not be a deadweight.

I personally know a Senior VP of a mid-sized bank nearby. Back in my junior year of HS I toured the floor with him and he mentioned that I should focus on contacting him when I'm actually at university.

At this point, I need to reach out to him and reestablish contact so I can tell him about my preparations and turn the dialogue into a summer internship. Right now the problem is I don't know how to approach contacting him and bringing up the discussion of me working for him. I figure I cold email him and ask for a 15 minute chat about his bank and work and naturally transition the conversation over to what he would do in my shoes and how I should make my summer useful.

If that all fails I might be limited to calling local banks and other PWM's firms begging to let me work with them.

What would you guys do in my shoes and how should I handle talking my connection at this regional bank?
