When to engage with headhunters?

Hi All,

I'm currently a first-year analyst at an MBB firm and have been getting many emails from a few headhunters about setting up an initial meeting/various recruiting opportunities within PE. However, from my understanding, it's generally advisable for candidates to be fully ready before initiating conversations with headhunters.

I plan to be ready for recruiting next summer and hope to engage more with the HHs then. Would it be advisable to wait until next year to schedule these initial meetings when I've learned my technicals and better understand why I want to do PE, or should I engage with the HHs now to begin a relationship with them? If I ignore them now, will they still reach out to me with opportunities in a year?

You don't have to be fully ready to talk with headhunters. They will set a meeting with the firm and you'll have time to prep before then.
