When to look for Hedge Fund/Asset Management Job?

I have been in a sell side equity research role for multiple years now and am ready to make the jump to the buy side. I get paid my annual bonus at the end of June and would like to stay through to collect it, but I was unsure if that would put me in a bad position for buyside recruitment since they will have likely just taken on new MBA class. So my basic question is, does the timing of when I try to begin interviewing matter, or do I have the same odds year round? Thank you!

Seems like you would have less of a chance during the recruiting pipeline as you do not fit into the people being recruited, so a spontaneous demand resulting from increased growth in the business may necessitate an experienced hire like you.

But, that is just an open opportunity. Good luck getting an offer. It could take awhile so I wouldn't even wait on the right time to apply. Just start applying and knocking on doors until you have bloody knuckles.
