Where to be a career banker?
Balancing comp, wlb, future trajectory and deal flow - where is the best place to be a career banker? I don't have any interest in buy-side.
I'm at Baird now and deal flow and culture are decent but WLB is abysmal. VPs routinely putting in 80 hour weeks. ASOs and ANs cracking 100 hours at least once a month. Where else is a good place to be long-term where having a family is also manageable? I'm not looking to be a rainmaker. I don't need to cash in multi-million dollar checks.
Where else should I be looking?
Maybe either a balance sheet bank or a regional m&a boutique? Corporate banking could be worth a look if you’re open to it.
Going to be honest, I have no idea what corporate or commercial banking does and how the two vary.
I'll look into it but I do like the aspect of sell-side M&A and process execution.
10 second synopsis: Commercial Bank provides small loans to small companies (LoCs, ABLs, Term Loans, etc.). Corporate Banking provides large loans to large companies (same as above but can include working with DCM to provide bonds/etc). Some banks differentiate the two and some banks use these two terms interchangeably. The pay for a true Commercial Banking role however is significantly less than a true Corporate Banking role (and even more so IB); although, the WLB is much better.
