Which Offer Should I Take? - Opinions?

Hi guys,

I just wanted to get an opinion from all of you. I received 2 job offers and am confused which one I should take:

Job 1: corporate finance with an F500 company (CPG Industry). Large brand name. Job 2: Financial Analyst (basically FP&A) with a national bank (subsidiary of a big bank).

End career goal: Work in the M&A side or work in a PE or HF.

Also, please tell me why you think I should take job 1 or job 2.

Thanks all! Much appreciated

Not because I am about to accept an F500 offer, but for one main reason: 1. Branding a. The well known name [F500] will help lend some weight to your resume, but also offer other potential opportunities given its size and scope of business. -Potentially easier story to tell when you lateral or go to b-school...

b. I don't know this, but you might be seen as simply a regional back-office employee if you take the bank job despite it being essentially the same function.

Thanks for your advice. It is actually a national bank but most of their revenues are concentrated on one region... Do you still think it's best to go with corpfin?

Just caught this... yes I still believe that you should take the CorpFin job.
I'm thinking about how you might be perceived and maybe its just in my head, but I'm thinking if you take the CorpFin job you could be thought of as pursuing an interest, specific industry, w/e way you want to tell it, and then miraculously you somehow got an interest in M&A [maybe you did a project with the Corporate Development team]. I think this is a much easier story/experience to tell and have believed by bankers. Conversely, I think that taking what amounts in a banker's eyes to a 'back office' job despite the brand name of the bank will be a reputation that may be hard to shake. While you may be able to tell a good story, it may be hard to have it be believed w/ out it looking like you basically couldn't break into IBD. I'm not a banker though, just a poor soul starting an F500 pos. that didn't get an IBD offer and needs to make some $$ before an MSF so take it what I said with a grain of salt. Maybe a more experienced user will chime in...
