Why can't I even get an interview? (w/ resume)
I'm a sophomore at an ivy with a 3.85 gpa majoring in math and economics. I've applied to sophomore programs in IBD and S&T, and I just can't seem to get an interview. What am I doing wrong? I am a giant nerd, and my resume consists of a bunch of research and the fact that I took some graduate math courses. Is it my cover letter?
I feel that my resume and cover letter are decent enough to at least get an interview. Do I just have unrealistic expectations for a sophomore?

sophomore programs in IBD? ur not being realistic... it's rare for sophomores to get FO at a bank
1) still somewhat early in the process for most banks (especially MM/boutiques)
2) as a sophomore, even with a good background its tough to get IBD
3) if you want BB experiences, there are some decent BO programs (yes, i realize its BO), but it makes it easier to move to FO for your junior year internship (i know a number of people who did that.. good just to show interest)
4) also check out PWM. yes, i realize thats also not IBD, but getting exposure, showing interest, and expanding your network are key at this point
5) check out some smaller firms, as they are more likely to hire a sophomore for banking. most of those programs for sophomores at the BBs are targeted at women and minorities (if you fall into one of those categories, thats a little leg up there... also, those programs are shitty rotation programs that people at the banks dont even like)
6) i havent seen your resume yet, but make sure you dont just have finance/academic stuff on there. try to paint a bigger picture of yourself. one thing that most recruiters loved on my resume is the personal interests section where i mention that i play music and am a cleveland sports fan. i spent half an interview talking about lebron and the cavs and ended up getting the offer cause it was an engaging conversation

I dunno your resume looks really solid to me. i also would think you'd at least get some interviews. i mean you're basically overqualified. i'd chalk it up to bad luck and keep trying, this job market sucks.
^^^ As a sophomore your probably over qualified. It looks like you've done pretty much everything except banking already. Bankers like it when you come in wide eyed and in a state of wonderment. They like some level of impressionability so they can count on you to work like your a jew in ancient egypt.
Also, how have your networking efforts been going? If your just up loading your resume for the resume drop you may just mix in the with the crowd.
resume font and spacing is ugly, but credentials are good for a sophomore. However it looks too much like a quant resume -- way too mathy for banking. Try DE shaw son.
Also, you're a BIG ass nerd, no one wants to work with urkle. "DID I DO DAAAAAAAT?" say you like cooking cupcakes or something???

It is much harder to get interviews as a sophomore, but with that kind of resume, I would have expected you to get at least a few. I'd fix up the formatting and expand on some of your extracurriculars (shows that you are more well-rounded). And in the mean time, apply to quant/tech positions - they are more likely to hire sophomores from my experience.
I strongly agree that your format/font/layout is horrible. Although this likely will not completely exclude you from interviews, that can certainly be a limiting factor as all other factors look pretty good.

i noticed someone said that applying to both S&T and IBD were bad ideas. For all the sophomore programs I applied to both and even indicated that on my cover letter. Was that a horrible move?
