Will my last name screw me over for recruitment
I am a first-semester freshman at a non-target school looking to break into investment banking. I have an internship right now, and one lined up for the summer, both of which are finance internships. I am also in talks with a boutique investment bank for a spring internship. I have also started studying technicals. I am wondering if having a common Indian last name will affect me when recruiting for investment banking, does anybody have experience with this?
Yes, curry muncher
I mean, what does it matter? Are you going to marry a Smith and change your name to theirs? Just focus on things you can control, study and network.
He definitely a patel
Patel can you please fix my computer
there are so many indians in banking you would not stand out
And odds are there’s another Patel currently working in the industry with your exact first + last name combo
There is always a Rishi somewhere.. lol
There are more Indians in IB than ppl realise, esp in Tech Banking, for example Head of JPM Tech, Deutsche TMT, and many more junior MDs in the wings…
If you research enough you will find em, pull that lever smartly and land the job
No, surnames don't matter.
I've seen people the surname Crook and another with the surname Dollar. Gave me a good laugh but not a deciding factor when giving out the offer.
This guy might have a trick or two up his sleeve for you
