[advice] Switching firm after 1 month working
Hey guys,
I need some advice and hope you guys can help.
I have been working with this boutique PE for 5 weeks. I was a fresh grad and they offered me an internship that might convert me to full time after 6 months. I love the job but i find the culture of the company a lil bit awkward. people dont communicate that much. people sent email to each other eventho the dude just sit besides u. I think my current team lack of team spirit and i dont see myself grow in that firm. (maybe i am being to sensitivie. -> need some insight for this part)
Btw,
I went coffee with my ex-boss who currently working in MS. We were talking about the mega funds and i briefly mentioned about mega fund that i really want to work with sometimes down the road. Apparently, he knew someone inside and he hooked me up.
fast forward, I interviewed with the partners and they offered me a position and i accepted it. I have been admiring the company and the partner since university. Very humble and smart guy.
my current firm has xxxM AUM and the company that i am going to join has xxB AUM.
My questions:
Did i do the right move? the industry is so small.. , i dont want to have a bad image.
what should i say to my current MD? should i be honest with her? (she just asked me out for lunch and told me to keep up my game if i want to get the full time offer) should i just say i dont fit to the company and bla bla bla.. and dont tell her about other company offer?
man i am confused. i am still so thankful to them because they are the one who open the industry door for me. but now i am jumping ship.
help will be much appreciated.
So you're an intern that might get a full time offer and you want to know if taking an actual FT offer is a good idea even though you have already accepted it?
Eventho, fulltime offer sounds alot better.. but 2 months ago, i just said to my current firm that your firm is the best place for me to learn and bla bla bla and now i am ready to pack my stuffs.
plus my main problem is what should i say to my MD? should i be honest?
How do you function in day to day life?
i am included in all the meetings and deals. But things are very slow.
Seems like a no-brainer, FT>Internship.
Tell your MD you accepted an offer at larger fund and its a better opportunity. Thank her for the chance she gave you and be on your way.
Thank your current fund and move on.
Tell your MD that you have been given a full-time position and that, in this environment, is A LOT better than an internship.
