Amazon abandons online sales, opts for physical store

I was reading this article which discusses the new Amazon bookstore which recently opened up at an expensive mall in NY. It's interesting to see the online giant open up their own physical store after being named as the reason why so many went out of business over the past few years.

Is this just a one-off or does it show us that perhaps we will never go 100% online? Personally I know that I enjoy the real life shopping experience of walking through aisles and being able to browse a selection of goods with my own eyes and be able to pick things out. What's interesting is that Amazon opted to do this with a book store, something which you typically don't need to see in person before buying (as opposed to clothes for example).

What do you guys make of this?

I think print book sales have actually been increasing year over year, which isn't too surprising considering not many other forms of entertainment and information are so easily accessible and enjoyed without a machine. I'm not sure what you mean by going 100% online, but I think there will always be a place for real life shopping as long as human interaction is valued (hopefully always, since the opposite seems depressing as hell)
