Analyst Tries To Talk Like Me

Whenever my analyst speaks on calls, to clients or internally, he adapts my style of speaking and tonality. Honestly didn't notice this until someone else pointed it out, but I guess I have a distinct way of talking. While I talk to said analyst, he talks normally and is generally a likeable dude; but the second he's on calls he switches up. I know he probably looks up to me and this is maybe a weird compliment in some way, but still.

I'm making this post because whenever he does this it comes off extremely unnatural and forced and I don't think I'm the only one who notices it. How do I make him aware of this without hurting his confidence? (some analysts won't even talk on calls but that's another issue).

That's a huge compliment, likely means he's not a confident presenter but is paying attention to how you present and thinks you do it well. I'd guess he has no idea he is doing this. I wouldn't mention it, you'll make a nervous presenter even more nervous because he'll be focused on how he's speaking.

Just let him keep doing this, try to arrange some speaking roles for him on less important, internal calls (training new analysts, project circle-ups etc) to get more reps. He'll eventually find his own voice.

Take it as a compliment man, the kid looks up to you. There’s an associate who I work with, and though I don’t exactly emulate his way of speaking, I eat up everything he says.

That’s a good thing. You should aim to have the employee you manage mirror your behavior and style of business. That means you are doing it correctly and he is doing the same. Plus you are more senior, successful and powerful than him in the organization, so if he’s your employee that’s a good thing. If he starts doing that with people in the group that’s a different story

i'll give u a useful answer - either tell him to try and sound a little more natural when he speaks, or speak to someone else senior about it, see if they notice, and if they do ask them to give him a quick word of advice for you. Ask them to tell him the same thing, to try to come off a little more naturally (I'd avoid mentioning that he's beginning to sound like you)

Start saying "chewsday" like the Brits do and see if he copies - haha.
