Andrew Cuomo: "We must reopen the economy"

"We simply cannot stay closed until the vaccine hits critical mass. The cost is too high. We will have nothing left to open. We must reopen the economy, but we must do it smartly and safely."

I wonder what changed recently for Cuomo to shift his stance so aggressively.

How can anyone at this point not think that orange man is bad?

Fuck this guy. Any republican that said this for the last 9 months got shredded by the media and liberals alike. Now that bummy Biden is in office, is he admitting republicans were right all along? And draconian lockdowns don’t actually work? Color me fucking surprised.

It's been awesome to see all the Democrat politicians break their own rules, so that the peasants can know how to properly stay safe during a pandemic.

Also the reopening of schools. Media bashed it day and night under Trump. Record number of kids have been failing. Now, Biden has prioritized reopening schools within his first few months in office and media totally on board.

as everyone above said. It's politics.

When people fail to realize politicians are human and normal ass people too with normal ass ambitions, that's when they get screwed. Cuomo is no different than any other person. He wants to stay in a political leadership role and preferably advance down the line. If I was a genie and said "no politics, no political consulting" he'd instantly be no better than the mcdonalds burger flipper down the street

Whoever could have seen this coming. This is completely unexpected. No one can accuse Democrats of being hypocrites.

"If you don't have any enemies in life you have never stood up for anything" - Winston Churchill | "It's a testament to the sheer belligerence of the profession that people would rather argue about the 'risk-adjusted returns' of using inferior tooth cleaning methods." - kellycriterion

I don't completely disagree with everyone above but the single biggest difference between now and before is that there is now a vaccine that is actively being rolled out as we speak. It was not even approved until what 3-4 weeks ago? Sounds pretty biased to not consider this as the literal key differentiating factor between now and before...

I haven't looked it up recently, but sometime in the summer Cuomo, the most incompetent governor in America on Covid, had approval ratings in the 80% range while those performing toward the very top of the list (economies still doing fairly well, transparent data, relatively low deaths rates) had approval ratings hovering around 50% and faced un-ending media assaults (that still continue to today).

We live in a world of utterly inverted morality. As much as media has been decentralized the last 25 years, the old school, mainstream media still has outsized influence over public opinion. Social media is now reinforcing this influence by making old school media de facto "verified" sources and providing old school media members as fact-checkers, and (on YouTube) ensuring that old school, mainstream media stay at the very top of suggestion lists.

Andrew Cuomo was given a fucking Emmy. An EMMY for his performance on Covid. An MFing Emmy. Why? Because the mainstream media kept telling the sheep how terrific Cuomo's performance had been.

What I find more frightening is the ideological direction of the Left lately.  The general thought seems to be that we can let people suffer and allow things like riots because it is for the greater good if it gets rid of the more evil orange man.

Similarly, you'd have to be asleep to not notice a shift from the party of peace and love to "punch a Nazi" and we very loosely define "Nazi".

Same with big tech limiting free speech....for the greater good because orange man is so evil.

So, yes, I'm concerned about the decision-making process behind Cuomo opening up the economy, but it's not just him.  I find the growing ideology of violence and force behind the Left to be very troubling for this country. The Democratic Party needs to go back to its roots - this is not heading in a good direction if we treat human beings and small business owners as disposable pawns in a political game.
