Asian Males have it the worst in Finance
It's actually ridiculous how difficult it is for Asian males (both East Asian & Indian) to break into finance. It is easier for every other demographic to break into finance, and even worse, they're held to a lower standard than Asian males on the job as well.
- Hispanic and Black people are held to a much lower standard in college admissions, and are the beneficiaries of many, many diversity programs which essentially give them a free path to an elite job.
- Asian and white women are held to a lower standard simply because they are women (which is wrong, yes, but it happens), and also benefit from diversity programs due to their gender.
- White men also do have it hard, to be fair, but they do have the cultural/networking advantage because of the culture in finance, and many white men at top schools are well connected. Yes, it is hard for a white man without connections to break in, but those are far fewer compared to Asian men without connections.
Many Asian men are the children of immigrants, and often have 0 connections in finance. Despite this, they have no diversity or inclusion programs, and are expected to grind harder than everyone else for a job. If you're an Asian man from a non-target, it's near impossible to get an elite finance job, whereas you see Hispanics / Blacks / Women do it all the time through diversity and inclusion programs; and you see white men do it all the time with connections.
Furthermore, Asian men who do get elite jobs are held to a much, much higher standard. I have friends who have told me that diversity candidates are held to an incredibly low standard during internships and have to do the bare minimum to get a return; while Asian guys have to be rockstars to get returns, most of the time.
del
if it makes you feel better the diversity gravy train ends eventually, and at that point you will have way more respect attached to your experience. How many kamalas do you see at funds like pershing elliot or tgm lmao? Despite the dog and pony show in ib/pe recruiting, everyone who is in the position to help you make real money knows that the nondiverse/nonnepotism guy who went harvard/gs is on average way more qualified and intelligent than most his peers. In any case, there’s a few every year that aren’t diverse or connected that go from HYPSW to GS/MS/EVR, so just be one of those people
SBed, I finished recruiting but this was good to hear
This guy probably is insufferable but your reading comprehension is lacking. That’s the point of his post, Asians have the same disadvantages without any of the diversity recruiting advantages. Yes, other people from other races are the children of immigrants, but they have the benefit of diversity programs to use as a stepping stone into the field while Asians do not.
Incorrect. Asians have substantially less disadvantages.
job well done
Ik diverse kids who are rockstars but they are respected at my Ivy school and everyone knows that. They don’t need diversity programs to get top offers. I see countless wealthy 1/4th hispanic/african american kids who don’t know shit and work half as hard and get it so easy . Not Asian myself but I’d imagine it’s horrendous for Asian male. Similarly know many idiots in girls who invest who get top looks from buy side and top rx groups. Heard banks are trying to phase out these programs fingers crossed but if anything this programs should be directed towards exclusively first gen low income. The problem is systematic and starts with college admissions and banks hiring fat SJW HR fucks who think they’re changing the world by hiring a black woman
Yeah thanks for the ms you fucking squid
Please cite the evidence for this.
I mean... this could go on a poster! "Statements that show I don't understand the point of diversity hiring, without saying I don't understand it."
Programs like AAAIM and LunarAccel were created in response to these developments. Definitely worth a look
Very valid take, Asian males have it tough in many other ways also, but such is life - got to make the best of the hand your dealt
Lmao you should look up the demographics of Asians in finance compared to every other gender-racial demographic that you stated
It's okay, you can always identify as black when you apply
indeed, either get over it and be the exception that gets recruited, make it happen, or just shut the fuck up and move on with something else in life
too much whinning and crying and blaming the system for not being meritocratic
get into politics and make some changes if you don't like how corporate america works
lol tf is this
Don't worry, in the long run merit wins out. Always does...but don't forget networking / politics / communication style is also merit based. Took me a while to accept this since I am much more analytical, but this is business not science charisma matters.

OP, you've probably got your answer between the lines.
Somebody clearly didn't get the SA offer they wanted. Maybe network more and complain on WSO less
