I'm guessing this poster may be referring to marijuana, newly legalized in Washington and Colorado, although still illegal on a federal level.

Nootropics: performance enhancing drugs. Like L-Dopa or Methylphenidate for someone who has a prescription.

Also, there are some herbal Nootropics.

Also, Red Bull is banned at some colleges.

Caffeine is banned in dosages of over 15 mcg/mL by the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Everyone knows that Caffeine is good for both physical and mental performance.

So is nicotine, green tea, creatine. What's your point? Do you really think a F500 is going to spend their time drug testing for some over the counter herbal medication? Apart from your initial drug screen, unless you are showing up to work drunk/with blood shot eyes everyday, I doubt they are going to hassle you/themselves.

This to all my hatin' folks seeing me getting guac right now..

FINRA has banned all portfolio managers from taking jack3d, it's been really tough lately.

I bet universities will start testing for Adderall and Vyvanse someday. They are basically steroids for the classroom. Obviously people with subscriptions will be fine but those without might get screwed.

Nope, an employer can't explicitly ban the consumption of legal substances outside of the workplace. It's a violation of Federal labor regulations. That being said - if you're high as a fucking kite on xanax all day, they might show you the door based on "poor cultural fit" whether or not you have a legitimate prescription. At will employment's a bitch.

Professional sports leagues have their own lists of banned substances. It's interesting that their is no oversight body regulating performance enhancing substances for financiers.

Yeah there is, it's called FINRA. Guess what happens when you fail a drug test? You get tagged for life and you're done in the industry. I guess it's not performance enhancing, but there's no such thing as performance enhancing drugs in finance. I know you 20 year old suburban high school valedictorian types that have smoked weed a couple times think a little speed or adderall or vyvanse or even blow would help you through those late nights, that ain't the case. sure it will keep you awake, but it will also turn you into an unintelligent zombie in the short term, and once you start showing up monday morning to face a rough week on minimal sleep because you decided you could get over a little bit o' the columbian flu, you better hope you're a hard motherfucker.

Shit gets pretty serious pretty quick when you start playing in the big leagues in terms of narcotics, and your average kid coming into banking, even your average "drug using" kid, isn't even in the minors yet. Yeah, a bit of chemical help will keep you awake through that night. It will also pull the rug out from under you a couple months later.

Ain't no performance enhancing drugs in banking. Anyone who tells you there are doesn't know shit about performance, doesn't know shit about banking, and doesn't know shit about drugs.
