Whatever you get, remember to get a good keyboard, (mechanical or if you want old-school buckling spring) mouse and external monitor. (or two if you can drive them. think at minimum two 1080p or a 4k monitor) You'll thank me later.

Seriously, optimizing what you interface with is task #1 for working. Most high end laptops can get the work done, and I say this as someone with Bloomberg, Morningstar Direct and FactSet access. You'll likely have much less

My normal recommendation for a personal laptop is the Surface Pro, since it doubles as a tablet, but in this situation I'm not sure that's the best option for you. It only has a USB3 and a USB-C port for output. I've hacked things a bit with a multi-adapter, but for a primary issue things may be better served by a different device.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

Thinkpad x1 carbon is a good one I've heard. One problem I have with it is the touchpad. My hands are pretty big so everytime I use the trackpad, the left hand's palm under the thumb always rests on the touchpad such that when I move my mouse with my right hand, the pad thinks I am holding it down with a second finger due to my left hand's palm. Has anyone had this problem? So annoying when I try to move my mouse and then it highlights everything I moved my mouse past.

Will update my computer soon and leave Incognito so I will disappear forever. How did I achieve Neanderthal by trolling? Some people are after me so need to close account for safety.

Another vote or the X1 Carbon!

These things are amazing.

Also consider getting one with mobile broadband.

Has anyone tried the new ipad with the magic keyboard?
