Best Place to Smoke Cigars in NYC?

Hey Monkeys

Just moved to the Big Apple and looking for a spot to smoke a stogie and meet cool people. Been going to Casa de Montecristo's every Friday due to their awesome BYOB policy and bumping DJ.

Probably going to check out Carnegie Club here pretty soon. Any recommendations on spots to smoke and meet successful people?

Thanks

Oh man, good thread. If you're ever in Chicago and want a stick, let me know.

Coming in September, will try to bring the Bulgarian (DK, now lost in translation somewhere in Italy)

I am a member of a lounge in the loop, but I hear Biggs is the spot.

Honestly, the cigar shop in the board of trade is a great place to shop and smoke. I hit that sometimes on Friday afternoon.

"Back in the day" a good friend of mine was a member there and I went at least once a month for a couple of years. "The Reverend" Al was there literally 75% of the time, often accompanied by much younger women or other B-list celebrities (DL Hughley was usually a part of his entourage). I guess Sharpton's form of public service pays pretty well and leaves plenty of time for leisure. Rudy Guiliani was also a regular and despite being arch-enemies in "real life" the two had no issues at GHR.

I rotate through Macanudo Club, Carnegie Club and SoHo Cigar Bar, usually as dictated by geographic convenience. In light of the fact that you don't have many options, they're all decent.

Macanudo and Carnegie are pretty classic - wood paneling, generally plush seating, jazz bands on busier nights, etc. If you're going to "meet successful people," I suppose these would be it. I've never seen conversations struck up between tables but the people at the bar typically look chatty.

SoHo Cigar Bar is what you'd get if a sports bar and a hookah lounge had a cigar-smoking baby. They bring out bottle service sparklers stuck in chocolate cake for awkward looking bachelor parties in NFL jerseys. I'm not hating - I've been party to it before and the chocolate cake is actually decent - just know that you probably won't be meeting Gordon Gekko here. The service is usually really friendly, and it's a great option if you're downtown and just wanna stoge up without schlepping it uptown.

If you ever come to Atlanta, check out La Casa del Tabaco. They have great cigars and the guy there treats you like an old friend. Leather seats and huge humidor. It's in the Buckhead area so you catch my drift.

Boisdale is great. I used to frequent the one in Belgravia. You can get in without membership, but sometimes all tables are reserved for members.
