also this sounds more like investor relations seat. why dont you target that sort of job. theres a million funds that have jobs im sure youd be competetive for.

Saying that you had a healthcare crisis from an adverse reaction to an ingredient you didn't know at the time was in your diet which prevented you from completing your internship is not a false statement, and I would include that in my explanation.
I think the language "allergic reaction" is not medically accurate, and I would stray away from that. I would not characterize it as that.

I might encourage you to think about consumer goods, tech (marketing, finance, strategy) or west coast based industries like AM or ER out of LA / San Francisco
I’m not trying to crush your dreams of doing asset management - but just think about how to find an employer or geography that’s a little more forgiving.

I don’t think this failed internship is going to impact you as much as you think. Sure, the industry is small and people talk, but respectfully, you were just an intern. Plenty of interns suck but everyone forgets about them soon after, because they were interns.
What you need to be more focused on is making sure you take care of your mental health so that this doesn’t happen again.
Couldn’t agree more, and thank you very much for the consolation. As one of the other replies said, taking anything without checking first is illogical and asking for trouble.

Why would you start taking a random supplement when you know you have severe mental issues? I cannot understand the logic of that decision at all.
As to advice, do what every college kid does. Apply everywhere you can and hope to land an interview.
And make up a family death or something to explain your terrible internship performance if asked.

Not to dissuade your goals and dreams, but why AM and investment in general? Stress and poor sleep hygiene are triggers, yes? Which will be your life for at least several years?

I hate to be that guy but someone needs to help manage your expectations. BPD is going to be a prohibitive condition to having a successful career in finance. You're in college and still have lots of options available to you, but this industry is not going to be receptive to someone who has an incurable disposition that makes them prone to emotional instability and an inability to focus/perform in a high-stress environment. Kiss the idea of ever being a partner/principal/any risk seat or being able to raise capital in the future goodbye - mental illness is not a risk any sophisticated LP will be willing to take in regards to their own/investor's $$$ nor should they. You can of course ignore this and soldier forward, just know you're going to face an intense uphill battle and a definite ceiling in what you can achieve.
I would echo this.
Find an environment conducive to your health. That doesn’t mean you have to have an awful career. But just try to find a geography and specialty with some flexibility that plays to your strengths and minmizes your weaknesses
Don’t try to force a square peg into a round hole. It will hurt

I disagree with this advice. I hear you, and think generally, there is a lot of truth to what you are saying.
OP, you and only you should decide what you are capable of. There is no reason you should let some random person on the internet who has never met you tell you if you are capable of performing a role they may or may not have ever worked. They don't know your medical condition, your history, or how you have handled high stress situations in the past.
For the record, I am not saying you absolutely should "soldier on", but that I would work with mentors, your family, and reflect internally to determine what is best for you.
In general, I find that people who try and set ceilings for others they have never met are usually biased and idiotic. I had a lot of people tell me I was not well positioned to do things I have since surpassed, thank God I didn't listen to those folks.
Amen to this. I'm not gonna set any ceilings for myself that don't exist within reality, just bounce back and do as best I can. Much appreciated - job search is moving so far with some progress so seeing new replies like this are very inspiring
Hey man I imagine it really sucks but it will sure be one of your most impactful reflective learning experiences ever and the only thing you can do now is keep moving forward because the past is in the past now there will 100% be more opportunities and you still have this intern experience on your resume too and now you know what you need to do or take before you get into these high pressure situations. It’s all good man you will be okay ! Mistakes happen.
