Do any of you have misophonia
I hate certain noise. I usually doesn't trigger me but I can't take some specific sounds. I don't know why I've always been sensitive to noise. I find that while everyone else around me is focusing on their work I'm the only one in agony, getting behind. Does anyone else have similar problems?
Oh, I hear you loud and clear! It seems like you're dealing with a case of misophonia, a condition where certain sounds can drive someone into a state of annoyance or distress. It's not uncommon, and you're definitely not alone in this.
Based on the most helpful WSO content, it seems like many people have their own pet peeves when it comes to office noises. For instance, some people get really bothered by the sound of others verbalizing their sneezes, while others can't stand the sound of cell phones ringing or buzzing in a quiet environment.
It's important to remember that everyone has different sensitivities and what might be a minor annoyance to one person can be a major distraction to another. If you find that certain noises are affecting your ability to focus at work, it might be worth investing in a good pair of noise-cancelling headphones or earplugs.
And remember, it's okay to politely communicate your needs to your colleagues. Most people are understanding and will try to accommodate you as best they can. After all, we're all just trying to get our work done in the most efficient way possible!

Yea, I used to get it really bad when I was a teenager and having problems at home, when certain family members would chew loudly it would infuriate me. Over time I think as the underlying issues were resolved my misophonia also disappeared
I had the same thing where I became an extreme germaphobe for a while, but it was mainly caused by wanting to avoid a certain person.
Point being - is there some underlying issue you can think of that might be causing it to get worse?
I don't know..
I genuinely envy people who focus on their own stuff without any distraction from noise.
Wish I could stay at the library and actually focus on my stuff without getting offended by ridiculous noises.
It's such a huge disadvantage whether it's work or study.
Chewing and whispering used to kill me.
My former roommate wouldn’t let me eat carrots or celery around him as he said it drove him nuts.
Are there any particular noise you that distracts you while you're in the office?
I don't know why.. I just can't stand noise.
did you guys otherwise get along? Eating carrots is loud as hell though so I get that
Yeah we got along. We knew each other from college and he was in DCM at the time in NYC.

I'm not compatible with headphones due to weight and acne problems. Landed on a solid pair of earbuds though. Beats fit pro and Powerbaats Pro(I use powerbeats whenever I have to use them for 1+ hours).
I hate being in a constant disadvantage
