As the great Tyson said, everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face so why discuss it

Can you walk up to a teller in a hoodie with a surgical mask on and hand her a note saying you've got a gun and you want all the money in the drawer? If so, you can quite successfully rob a bank. Won't get but a couple grand, but unfortunately this is common enough that unless you go on a spree or did something really dumb in the process (or afterwards like telling someone what you did) I'd give 95% odds you could get away with it.

Obviously, not condoning or encouraging anyone. Just pointing out what I've learned about this thanks to documentaries, news reports, etc about the topic.

Oh this has been the most common MO since way before the beerbug. It's "easy" to get away with because due to the low value in cash it's a rounding error in the books so they tell their people to just hand it over and let it go. It's way less expensive than the hospital bills, legal fees or negative publicity so I'd call it a smart move.
