Everyone has an accent. The question you're trying to ask is whether people wished they had a different accent. A solid follow-up would be if yes, how retarded they are.

Grew up in different countries due to my parents' careers/jobs - have a unique blend of US/UK/EU accent in my native English. Typically people keep saying they can always spot an accent, but they are unable to do it with me. Weirdly I don't have that accent in my other languages. It is not a wish to have something else, but at times I just switch to a more "pure" accent when I am in the US or the UK to appear more local (this only works to a certain degree though).

I think the Southern accent sounds nice, some Aussies too.

Let's face it, British people get away with a lot of shit because of their accents. I know directors that are directors solely because of it.

Ever heard an Italian guy start arguing that we should call pasta sauce gravy and suddenly adopt one of those?

Texas accent. But only with the voice that comes from smoking a pack a day for 20 years.

I have a really mild Russian accent that for some reason only redneck types can detect. Ironically, I develop a moderate Southern accent when I drink.

"theaccountingmajor" Do any of you guys on here have accents? If not, do you wish you had one? What accent do you wish you had?

This is stupid on so many levels. An accent? Everyone has an accent. Our voice and biometrics of it are not only as unique as a snowflake, but our development in a certain region is identifiable in that learned language.

As we move around, this accent changes, even if indistinguishable to the average ear in that region. With each language addition, our accent changes again and if you have two languages, you have an accent in each.

Most people who speak many languages change accents depending on region, making this question look quite infant like in the broad scope of anthropological and societal norms. So that I don't depart after throwing out some long words, let me give an example.

Spanish was my second language of three. I learned in Valencia. There is a "th" accent when you say a "c" and for a few other instances. To be understood in that region, you have to say the gay sounding lisp accent, or the locals just don't understand you.

But, shortly after that, I went surfing in Mexico followed by a trip to South America and had to change my Spanish accent. First of all the whole lisp thing is gay in the Americas. It sounds ridiculous especially for gringos. For natives of Valencia or Barcelona, they can get by - its ok - its like them wearing a thong on the beach as a guy - they don't know its not right - they are Euro.

So I drop the lisp in Mexico. Meanwhile when I went to Argentina I dropped the lisp and had to switch from saying chicken like 'pollo' where the 'll' is a y sound, to a 'je' kind of sound, to be understood.

Accents are about being understood, fitting in, and expressing the culture and roots you came from in a certain way, or by spies/actors to take on a certain one for a particular reason.

I don't know why I wrote all that. - oh well
