I used to compete in Boardercross Snowboarding in regionals and nationals, which would be my best chance at getting into the Olympics.

That's sweet

Yeah bro was a lot of fun, only part that sucked is that you check in and have to wait around for 3 hours for your heat to be called and the actual event is only a couple minutes, similar to other sports.

Or if you're a guy competing in women's boxing.....

Step 1. Identify as a female
Step 2. Shave your body
Step 3. Grow long hair
Step 4. Enroll in boxing classes

Step 5. It’s 2028 and you’re an Olympic gold medalist making your country proud.

Since I'm going to assume this is a hobby, we should pick something that might be sort of enjoyable too.  I don't know about you, but I personally don't enjoy getting punched in the face.  I don't care who it's by.

The country that you're competing for also makes a big difference.  Competing for team USA is tough, but there might be different challenges for other teams.  A friend's "little" brother just missed getting on the '08 US wrestling team in the 95 kilo class.  He has dual citizenship, and says he was better than most of the Polish team, but wasn't picked because of politics.

I'd say the best shot is to go for a high bar to entry ($$$) sport in a country that isn't known for it to begin for. (so don't move to Kenya and try to take up distance running)  Even better if it's a team sport where you can coast on the performance of your teammates. (I'm pretty sure either US basketball team could win with me on it, and I'm 5'10" and unathletic)

With all that being said, does anybody want to try to join the Jamaican Bobsled Team?  One for the running, two for the show, three to get ready and four to...."

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

I was in the Olympic trials for a sport that was pretty niche and one of my friends just won a bronze medal in Paris - there are definitely sports you can pick up later in life (like high school) and have an opportunity to make it.

If I had competed in a different country that was like super niche like Bermuda, 100% chance I coulda made Olympics
