Executive Dining Rooms - The Low Down

So, just general interest here more than anything (not to be confused with starry eyed models and bottles dreamers) I was wondering whether executive dining rooms in finance are a common thing. Only the big firms? What purpose do they serve over say a high end restaurant? Privacy? Convenience?

Perhaps some of the older hats on here could give some insight.

A lot of times these end up being like bankers clubs where they are a little bit more exclusive to people in finance, and it makes it a good place to see and meet new people or ones that you already know. Being close to work is obviously convenient for any meet and greet too.
