I am sure by now all of you have seen the bill being passed that New York will provide free tuition to middle class families.
If you haven't read, here is an article here covering it, however I will provide important quotes below.

Families must earn an annual income of $100,000 or less during the first year of participation in the plan.New and existing students may apply, and you don’t need to be a native of New York State (or even a current New York resident) to do so.
It’s unclear whether there will be a grade-point-average requirement, but applicants must continue to college from high school with no interruptions. If the scholarship recipient becomes a part-time student or graduates from high school late, the option is off the table.
So, what do we think about this?
Happy Easter or whatever other religious holiday you may or may not choose to celebrate im not PC enough to know all 300 things today could be.
It's stupid and will make the state more expensive for poor people who choose to stay there. SUNY schools are cheap as fuck. This is going to hurt smaller private schools though.
at least cheap skilled "slavery" in NY state is better than debt-filled college grads in short term. You're too smart to understand. lol.
Hopefully there is data to benchmark before the decision of free schools that we can compare against 3-5 years later the effects.
I love the thought process on this. What made colleges more expensive? Answer: The government sponsored student loan process. How do we fix it? Answer: Let the government pay for the whole thing.
This will backfire, the price of education will go up, and I mean the nominal value. This will never be repealed, any government action can never be repealed once it is enacted.
CUNY is already like 8k a year! And it it is thriving, why throw a wrench in the cog.
