Getting Action with the Ladies in NYC

WFO pretty slow right now..thought I'd throw this up:

1 - Where do the guys here on WSO meet girls for casual relationships here in NYC?

I've hooked up with girls that I went up to on the street, nightclubs/bars, coffee shops. Where else do you fellas get some luck?

2 - How do you guys play your cards per the different locations/settings?

Looking to share some notes here for some fun speculation.

Tinder, Bumble, CoffeeMeetsBagel, Hinge, OKCupid

with all the various apps (assuming you present yourself in the most attractive pictures possible for YOU, plus a flirty few words for your "profile"), you can create a steady pipeline of girls to date and never have a night home alone when you want to socialize.

lots of my female friends have been going on dates from Tinder and Bumble during covid and hooking up...girls need the social interaction...they really need

Do girls think he's hot?

I feel like this could go wrong in NYC pretty quickly b/c a lot of people are pretty on-edge about wearing masks. Seems like a decent idea especially if you're 6 feet away anyhow.

Hinge worked well for me during my single days. Met some real great girls through that app. Some not so great - but that's what you get when you put yourself out there.

Matched with a few chicks on bumble. Most of the matches expired without communicating first, and those that communicated I realized I went through their profile too quickly when swiping right.

Tinder was absolute garbage in terms of profiles. It looked like a directory for People of Walmart.

Not single right now, but when I was mostly Hinge and occasional bar pickups. I've found that the quality on Tinder is low, as have most of my friends. I'm 33 and no one I know uses it regularly.

One thing that doesn't get discussed a lot is how the apps changed social life as a 20-something guy in NYC. When I graduated, they really didn't exist (a handful of people were on OkCupid but online dating wasn't really a thing) and the way you got 90% of your dates/hookups was in person at a bar. The goal of most every Friday/Sat night was to get numbers/take a girl home -if the women at the bar didn't look promising, we would quickly move to another bar. A "good night" was based on numbers obtained/taking someone home. Apps changed that entirely - you can never talk to a woman at a bar and still have basically as many dates as you want. Now "picking up women" is a secondary objective of going out - I would only do it very selectively and if I was in the mood. The primary focus is on having a good time with my friends. As a corollary to that, I have to imagine the younger guys' (28) in-person pickup skills are not as strong - they were never really forced to develop them if they chose not to.

As someone in early to mid 20s, I absolutely hate the fact that dating apps dominated the whole scene.

My horny adolescent high school student self was dreaming about adult life where I could go to a bar to chat up girls every weekend. Now that I'm living that life, it's disappointing to see everyone, even at bars, just staring at their phones swiping away. What's wrong with them? They are literally surrounded by bunch of young and horny people.

It's been useful during COVID though.
