Based on the most helpful WSO content, if your girlfriend is interested in the film industry and considering whether a generic business degree would be applicable, it's important to note that while a business degree can provide a solid foundation in management, finance, and marketing skills, which are all relevant to the business side of the film industry, it may not be specifically tailored to the unique aspects of film production and the entertainment industry.

For someone keen on joining the film industry, a degree that offers a combination of business acumen and industry-specific knowledge might be more beneficial. This could include courses or programs that focus on entertainment management, film production, or media studies, which often provide more direct pathways into the industry.

Additionally, networking and gaining practical experience in the field can be just as important as formal education. Encouraging her to seek internships, assistant roles, or even creating her own projects could provide valuable hands-on experience that is highly regarded in the film industry.

Remember, the film industry values creativity, practical experience, and connections. So while a business degree is not out of the question, combining it with industry-specific knowledge and networking could enhance her chances of success.

Got any west Coast recommendations? Are UCLA or USC undergrad film degrees worth it?

I’ve heard good things about both UCLA and USC.

“USC's School of Cinematic Arts is world-renowned and offers a more focused, industry-driven film education. They have close ties to Hollywood, and many influential filmmakers are alumni. One drawback could be the cost, as USC is a private institution, and tuition fees can be higher.

UCLA, on the other hand, offers a more comprehensive curriculum in their School of Theater, Film, and Television. They have an excellent reputation and many distinguished alumni as well, but the environment is slightly more academic. As a public university, the overall cost might be lower.“

In what capacity? If she wants to be an actress you should dump her and not look back, you do not want any of that smoke. If it's working in the industry then there are probably programs in NY/LA that have solid reps and alumni connections. I would not expect a generic business degree to be particularly useful unless she has other avenues to get relevant experience/show interest.
