Career Resources
Wall Street, The Wolf of Wall Street, Working Girl,
The Razor’s Edge (not very business, but goes into a bit detail about the Crash of 1929 and I highly recommend it
Boiler Room
Ha!
I enjoyed The Founder. Wall Street.
I wonder how much of that is artistic license and how much is true
Equity. It has some years but it is good
Die Hard with a Vengeance
Lord of War starring Nicholas cage was a great movie for providing a simple concept of the risk/reward for gun selling and the possible effects it has had
He was so great in that movie before his career went to shit.
Agreed although ghost rider was a good movie
Food, Inc. Smartest Guys in the Room Inside Job Too Big to Fail Money for Nothing Inequality for All There Will be Blood Fed Up Blow Empire of Dust 99 Homes
These are classics, Trading Spaces and Barbarians at the Gate.
Sigh, I'll bite.
Favorites Wall Street - Near top finance film. Rogue Trader - Default of Barings Bank. Barbarians at the Gate - 80s LBO Greed; Fall of RJR Nabisco. Duplicity - Corporate espionage. Smartest Guys in the Room - Enron Inside Job - Financial crisis; CBS Dean Glenn Hubbard loses his reputation. Glengarry Glen Ross - Closing sales. Margin Call - Fire sale of toxic assets. Classic line in the movie by actor portraying CEO, "Ways to succeed in this business. Be smarter, be first, or cheat." Trading Places - Classic. It's a Wonderful Life - Bank runs. Money and happiness. Pursuit of Happyness - Feel good Cinderella story. Big Short - Book was better, but movie is good. Too Big to Fail The Last Days Of Lehman Brothers Freakonomics - Book and Movie are amusing. Rollover - Solid movie. Literally could have been recut for 2008. History repeats. American Psycho - Can't believe I forgot this for the top! The Pit - Good documentary on the operations of a trading floor. Not for virgin ears. Betting on Zero - Captivating case study on Herbalife. I was hooked it was a facade.
Others Boiler Room - Just bad! Ben Affleck rips off Baldwin's speech from Glengarry Glen Ross. Characters drop racial slurs constantly. Wall Street 2 - Could have been better. Went soft and turned into a love story with a future father in law bromance. Wolf of Wall Street - My beef with Jordan Belfort is he is a sociopath, liar, and crook. I don't believe half of the stories portrayed and don't like how he is profiting off his wicked ways making the entire industry look like a den of thieves. We should not be idolizing these people. Ca$h - Shot to DVD movie about struggling couple stealing money from a crook and having to repay said crook. It's slightly entertaining. Capitalism: A Love Story - Michael Moore garbage.
Indirectly Finance Related Blood Diamond - Supply chain for diamonds from Africa to Tiffany's. Thomas Crown Affair - Theft of artwork. Inside Man - Denzel Washington and Clive Owen showdown during a high stakes bank robbery. Heat - Classic bank robbery. The International - Organized Crime, Banking, and Government Menage Trios. Going in Style - Bank Robbery 101 Fun with Dick and Jane - Enron parody.
Will think of others.
Yeah, that´s just, like, your opinion man.
Heat is underrated. Stylistically, it's one of the best movies around.
Respect.
The Freakonomics "movie" is more of a narrated infographic
How dare you, Boiler Room is a cult classic...
Margin call, Too big to fail and Big Short are prob my favorites
Also - Wall street warriors on youtube is also interesting, though I absolutely can't stand Tim Sykes
Margin Call seems very realistic in terms of everything from the finance dialogue to how the meetings are run.
I've legit had someone ask me to explain something to them as I would to a dog or small child. Also, Spacey was every sales manager I've ever known.
Google where those “wall street warriors” are now. Quite interesting so see how things went for them.
Definitely margin call
Not a cinematic film, but the "Billion Dollar Day" is a great documentary film about three FX traders in the 80's (one in NYC, another in London and one in Hong Kong) and follows as they trade against each other.
Its a great time capsule for the way trading was back in the day and is just overall well produced.

When it comes to movies about a financial crisis, Margin Call and Too Big to Fail are best-in-class. The Big Short is an amusing, if heavy handed, narrative. Boiler Room is like a poor person's idea of what a movie about the street should be; not unlike DJT being a poor person's idea of what a rich person should be.
For what it's worth, I would say that Michael Clayton, Up in the Air, The Company Men, and Office Space are all fine films about generic "business."
Haha dude.....you must have RICH taste
