Hair Care Routine
I know this is kind of a girly topic but most guys would prefer when their hair looks good. I am curious about what people do as part of their hair care routine? I am sure it varies a lot. Some guys might do nothing. I spend way too much time on the hair. I use a natural shampoo to wash it but I do not use a conditioner. Then, I use some American Crew gel with a hair dryer. More recently I started using American Crew Pomade after the hair is dry to give it a healthier, less frizzy look and partly wet look. I could probably drop the gel completely and just go with pomade but the pomade is kind of expensive.
Shampoo 2-3 times a week, condition almost every shower (unless I shower more than once that day - I try to keep conditioning to about once a day). I use Sauvecito's Matte Winter Pomade on mostly dry hair for a more voluminous look. I'd make the switch - gel is for oldies with combovers.
I use the gel primarily because I do not want the heat coming in direct contact with my hair and it is cheaper than the pomade. I need to shampoo just about every day because I work out most days of the week and if I do not shampoo, my hair would a sweaty mess.
forgot to reply to this lol but just note that no matter how often you work out, shampooing every day removes natural oils from hair. water will be more than enough for the days you do not shampoo. keep it at 2-3 days a week.
What conditioner do you recommend?
What hair?
team no poo. reuzel pink or layrite clay while its wet, running fingers through hair for texture.
are you a girl or guy, and did u notice any differences once u switched to noo poo??
I'm a dude. Yeah first 3ish months I was super greasy while things were balancing out. Once my scalp realized it wasn't being attacked it started producing a healthy amount. I used to be super frizzly and poofy even with conditioner, that's all gone now. It's funny to look back and remember when I had to wash my hair at least every third day or I'd hate my life.
I've poo'd up a few times over the years since then when things were real nasty after long camping trips or spartan races and the like. I just have a dry scalp for a day or two then it's back to normal.
Hair care is violent because it imposed greater cost on women
WTF?
I like where this is going
Hair dryer dries out your hair and isn't too healthy for it - towel dry, more patting than rubbing.
No joke, one of the best things to do to add some body, color, and health to your hair is to lather it in olive oil twice a week and let it sit in there for like 20-30 mins. Yes, olive oil. Then wash out with water and shampoo the next morning. Maybe it only works on my thick Italian hair but I know a lot of people that do it (family is from the italian section of the bronx so there might be a bit of group think looped in here). But, no joke it works and I notice a difference when I don't do it. I also have Aesop, sage and cedar stuff that I use once a week.
American Crew is great - I use the same (high shine medium hold pomade). No need for gel if you are using pomade, just use the pomade as gel. Don't shampoo more than you need to, 2-3 times a week. And condition 2x as much as you shampoo per week.
Avoid wearing a hat a lot. I only wear one for about an hour a day when I run/lift,
It seems logical that the dryer would have a negative impact but I am not sure about this. I am older monkey and have been using a hair dryer since I was a teen which was a long time ago. It is hard to say what works and what does not work because part of how well something works, is based on genetics. I think with hair, proper care of the scalp is probably more important. If you clog the pores in your scalp, your hair will not grow very well.
I believe you with the olive oil treatment but I have never tried it, though. I do not think the number times you shampoo or condition matters nearly as much as what you using. If you are using something natural, everyday can be fine. If you are using product with harsh chemicals, a few times a week could be detrimental.
I almost never wear a hat.
Hair drier is probably giving you split ends.
Never comb the wet hairs.
Is that what's thinning me??
May be, but not sure
oh wow I do the exact opposite, it's the only way to get it to reduce the volume. I have thick af hair tho
I will suggest you to use a mild shampoo.
Pre-covid: product every day, shampoo 1x/week (any more isn't great), very obsessive
Covid: don't do shit and wear hats most of the time
Bald
Eat good food and take proper diet.
I have very wavy, but not quite curly hair. I use shampoo/ conditioner 3x per week. I don't use hair products (no gel). I haven't the top length in like 4 months, but trim the sides regularly. I also have a very simple hairstyle so there's that.
I use Pure Argan Oil Shampoo. My hair is a #4 so not much styling - towel dry. Pretty low maintenance.

Thanks Kylie
What's your take on collagen supplementing for hair care?
I have never heard of collagen for the hair. I use a collagen based moisturizer for my face.
I mix Castor oil, Jojoba oil, and peppermint oil and massage it into my scalp after washing my hair. I also only gently pat my towel to dry.
Volume shampoo/condition a few times a week. Blow dry, styling clay. Takes me about 5 mins to dry and style.
Take good care of your hair and it will take care of you.
What is American Crew Fiber? I use America Crew Gel - heavy hold and American Crew Pomade - heavy hold. I have used the regular AC pomade but found that it does not hold as well. The only downside to the heavy hold pomade is that if I use too much, it becomes very difficult to get a brush through the hair. A little bit goes a long way. I end up using my fingers. The heavy hold pomade does not give you a wet look. The regular hold does, though.
Try to close the follicles with cold water after a hot shower. Makes my hair look great.
I've got borderline kinky hair -- every AM I spray water on the surface and wet the tips of the hair. I then rub some leave in conditioner and spread it throghout the hair and do the same with a hair oil like argan oil. I excercise everyday so at night I fully wet it, condition it for 5 minutes, then dry it off before bed. I also use a slik pillowcase which helps my hair retain it's moisture making my morning routine effortless.

You guys are going to hate me. Almost 40 but look 20. Walmart knockoff head n shoulders daily.
If you are going to flex like that, you should prove it and then you will get lots of compliments. If I am online, I can be any height I want. Today, I am going to go with 6'5 and I am going to be trying out for the Mets when the lock out ends.
I switch off on using a few things with thick, wavy hair: argan oil, coconut oil, and the wood shop serum by the longhairs (https://thelonghairs.us/collections/hair-care/products/argan-oil-hair-s…). I use the last one pretty much as a leave-in conditioner, but will also use a bit of the oils for the same purpose. I used to use pomades and experiment around with products, but I enjoy using more natural materials (which even just work way better), and I routinely get compliments on my hair from both ladies and guys.
I have 4с hair, does anyone know where you can buy a hair dryer for this type of hair? And how should I take care of such hair?
Well, listen to me...
Shea Moistuise leave in conditioner. Every morning spray and water the tips (don’t fully soak) and run some leave in conditioner throughout. Use a diffuser as well. Moroccan oil curl cream is also good since it has argan oil which is good for super thick/kinky hair.
american crew boost spray & propecia
If you don't have long enough hair, then you don't need to use conditioner, it will be enough for you to use shampoo, and that's it. But if you want to grow long hair, you will have to buy a conditioner for this and do a hair mask every few days so that your hair gets vitamins and looks great. I am a guy with long curly hair and what I can advise you if you have curly hair is to buy a special hairdryer for such hair. I have 4c hair, and I had to look for a hairdryer for my hair for a long time. It's good that I came across an article about the best hair dryers for my hair type -- http://hairdryerfair.com/best-blow-dryer-for-natural-4c-hair/.
If your hair is on the longer side, or if you’ve always wanted a long mane, try olaplex. Unlike other brands that add moisture/shine to the outer layers of your hair (not complex), olaplex works at the molecular level to strengthen the deep bonds that make up the hair (nerd alert). By doing this, you can finally grow your hair out to the length you’ve always wanted.
Olaplex products I’d recommend: No 3 hair perfector, No 4 shampoo, No 5 conditioner, No 6 bond smoother
Note: if you’re going to a high end salon, they’re probably using these products on you.
Typically shampoo once a week, condition 2x a week due to the thickness of my hair. (using argain oil brands)
Since I'm in a hybrid (remote/in-office) role, I tend to use leave-in conditioner at home which keeps my hair looking fresh enough for video conferences. When I'm in the office ill use baxter pomade with some hair-spray.
