Based on the most helpful WSO content, having guests stay during training in NYC can be tricky depending on the housing or hotel policies. For example, some summer intern housing options in NYC have strict guest policies, such as requiring guests to be signed in by certain times (e.g., 4 PM, 9 PM, or 11 PM) or limiting overnight stays to a maximum of 6-7 nights per calendar month. These rules can make it challenging to have someone stay for an extended period.
If you're staying in a hotel, it's essential to check their specific guest policies. Many hotels are more lenient, but some may charge extra for additional guests or have restrictions on unregistered individuals staying overnight. Since your friend would only be there to sleep and not interfere with your training, it might be feasible, but confirming with your accommodation beforehand is crucial to avoid any issues.

My two cents, it makes sense logically, but it's just not worth the hassle. Usually, the firm has a bunch of the interns assigned to the same hotel, so if you get an unlucky draw, you may have folks ask who the other person staying with you is. Its more optics than anything, but it'll just look really bad if that happens.
It's been done, sure, but the risk of looking like you have no EQ by inviting a friend to a work training thing is significantly higher than saving a few hundred bucks.
Gotcha. This is for FT training btw, not sure if that makes a difference
it's the same regardless. You'd be training alongside a cohort who could all potentially see you and your uninvited guest. If you were starting off-cycle or knew you're the only person being trained, that'd lower the risk considerably, but once again, it's really just not worth the hassle.
Doesn't this mean that instead of schmoozing with your peers after training and grabbing some drinks, you will be deserting your team to hang with your friends?
No, team events are priority, we'd plan around it
