Hitting the wall as a minority

EDIT: Some of you think this is a "woe is me post". It is not. I am a baller. I know I am a baller. I am not trying to dunk on anyone (though I will when appropriate). Just trying to gameplan around some racial realities I see.

-----

Ignore my title- currently at a BB powerhouse (a niche group within media and entertainment). I’m going to be very honest about the realities of being a minority, and I ask you to read this with an open mind.

Among my colleagues I see very, very few people who look like me. I know it should not matter and everything should come down to ability. But it does matter, in that these guys grew up in a culture that led them to this very spot. This is all they cared about as kids, it affected how they dressed, what they focused on in school, how they spent their free time. They are gods in their hometowns. My people hardly relate to me anymore.

Anyway- we are always staffed five people at a time. I feel like I’m benched much more than the others and can’t help but think it has to do with my race. When I do get called up, I think I handle the pressure well. I never drop the ball, I stay focused, I am a team player. However- some of the guys really get in my face. No foul, I think- after all, it’s late at night, we’ve been doing this for hours and are really putting on the full court press to get things done. Not surprised it gets more intense.

Still- I look around and think that if this was all truly based on merit, wouldn’t there be more people like me? At least maybe representative of the population? In college the racial mix seemed a little bit more balanced- why is it not here?

All I can really do is focus on carrying my team and leaving it all out there. I’ve learned nothing is a slam dunk, and as long as I keep grinding in the post (even while double-teamed) I’ll end up being ok.

TL;DR: being a white guy in the NBA is tough.

Bro is the GOAT of Powerpoint and Excel templates. Those White bois should take note and excuse themselves from their racist jobs.

We should really be helping people like you gain power huh?

If the puns in your edit don't make it clear then the rest of the reactionary responses are just proving that they're dullards.

If you honestly think that the white kids in banking were dressing up as bankers when they were 5 years old you sir are too retarded to be here.  Your skin color isn't the reason people give you side eyes, its because you are a retard.

Controversial

Fuck you dude, and fuck your retarded shitty attitude.  I'm white and I see the white partners' kids having playdates and getting networked before they're even potty trained, just like their parents and their grandparents before them.  Meanwhile half the minorities you've ever worked with are the first in their family to even go to college, let alone function at this professional level.

Maybe I see both sides of this given one side of my family were broke immigrants and the other side were literal nobility at one point....but if you think the deck isn't stacked heavily in the favor of upper middle class kids, most of whom are white, you're too dishonest to even interact with.

It's an obvious troll post you idiot. His "point" is white boys struggle in the NBA. Although this background story gives some solid insight into why you're such a virtue signaling bitch all the time.

TLDR should be. Im black in finance and feel insecure. I’m arrogant and think I’m more productive than all my white/other races peers.
