How are you using AI

How specifically are you using AI in your process?

The low hanging fruit (call notes, deep research primers, email drafting, etc) all are pretty apparent, but having trouble thinking of really differentiated ways people are using the tech (mostly because I currently use very little).

Bonus points if you focus on credit or cover small caps.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, AI is being utilized in several innovative ways within fundamental investing, particularly in areas like credit and small caps. Here are some specific applications:

  1. Data Processing and Analysis:

    • AI is used for tasks like running sentiment analysis on earnings call transcripts, extracting text from scanned documents, or even counting cars in parking lots to gauge retail activity.
    • Machine learning models trained on years of fundamental data are employed to create advanced stock screens, surfacing unique opportunities in small caps or credit markets.
  2. Predictive Analytics:

    • AI is being applied to improve predictive accuracy for credit defaults, rating changes, and bankruptcies. This is particularly valuable in credit markets where understanding risk is critical.
  3. Portfolio Risk Management:

    • Advanced statistical techniques powered by AI help hedge funds manage portfolio risks by identifying and hedging out unwanted factor exposures or correlations.
  4. Research Assistance:

    • AI acts as a "research assistant," synthesizing large amounts of structured and unstructured data to identify trends or anomalies in small-cap companies or niche credit markets.
  5. Automation of Repetitive Tasks:

    • Beyond the "low-hanging fruit" like call notes and email drafting, AI systems are automating the generation of standardized reports, enabling analysts to focus on higher-value tasks.
  6. Market Monitoring and Insights:

    • AI tools are being used to monitor markets in real-time, providing insights into small-cap stocks or credit instruments that might otherwise be overlooked.

While these applications are already in use, the potential for AI to further enhance fundamental investing lies in its ability to process and analyze vast datasets, uncovering insights that human analysts might miss.

Have gotten it to do a lot of my deep thinking research. Spend a lot of my day now working on prompting to free up my time for more deep investigative work. Also is invaluable for doing my relative value work on BB for IG spreads for less traded credits
