How do I stop mansplaining everything?

I meet a lot of people who know little to nothing about finance and they’ll me about my job and I’ll usually give a cagey answer like “I work in finance” or “I do venture/PE (changes depending on the audience). But there’s always follow up questions and that’s where I can’t give a concise answer without the listener having some amount of base knowledge (interest rates, what SaaS is, how growth equity works, etc etc). Eventually I end up explaining things to people and the other day I was called out for mansplaining. Should I just bite my tongue, stop giving a fuck, how do you guys cope with this?

Yeah that’s the same thing I say. Everyone understands it immediately and if they care or are interested they can ask follow ups. Idk why people make it so complicated. Maybe to flex their ‘preftige’.

You’re on WSO. You’re not most women. I’ve gone on dates with women who don’t know what a pension fund or a bond is.

Obviously if I’m going on a date with someone who graduated from a good school and has a business degree, the convo is different. But so many women have zero interest in business and didn’t take any business classes in college

I can count the number of women I have met that actually know what SaaS is on one hand.  I can't count the number of women I have met that understand what a realtor does because they all do.   This doesn't mean that these women are stupid.  It just means they have expertise in different things.

you do not need to be talking about saas and interest rates while explaining what growth equity is lol it’s not that complicated. just say you buy companies, manage them, and sell them for a profit — that’s all.

As a man, my take is if you were asked, and the information that you provided was necessary in answering their question then it aint mansplaining. But you can, instead of just assuming they don't know the supplmental information, just ask, "are you familiar with SAAS?", or something like that.

Anyone who unironically uses the term mansplaining deserves no respect and is giving you an open invitation to mock them. You are a man. You are explaining something they asked about. Don't humor them, just tell them off and ignore them going forward. People like that are worth neither the time nor effort.

Been accused of mansplaining a couple of times.  Each time, it was someone who thought she had a clue but really didn't have a clue.  I had no choice but to start with the basics.

If they want to call that mansplaining, so be it. I'm just honest with them: basically "you didn't know a thing about this, you were laboring under the delusion that you did, thank God I was here to save you."
