How does someone in banking look younger?

Insufficient sleep = Eye bags.

High Stress Environment =Hair loss.

Meals at Desk = Unhealthy diet.

No time to exercise = Putting on weight.

I am only slightly above my mid twenties and one girl I picked up at a bar thinks that I am in my thirties. Quite depressed after that encounter.

I went to google on tips on how to look younger and they say that I should have sufficient sleep, eat healthy, exercise often and have a happy life. I find it hard to achieve all this in banking.

Anyone of you who don't look your age too because of your job?

In before someone mentions push-ups and moisturizer.

I enjoy people mistaking me for an older person. Helps in a professional setting because people give me more credibility and helps socially because it opens more... uhh... doors.

DowneastaAre you currently in IB? Even with the crazy lifestyle of an IB analyst, you should be able to squeeze in a workout at least once a week, even for 30 minutes.

With regards to sleep, try taking melatonin before you go to bed. It'll put you to sleep quicker than normal, along with helping you to sleep deeper (and thus get more REM time). The downside to this is you feel a bit groggier for 10 minutes or so, when you wake up.

You can still eat healthy meals at your desk. I could go on about this ad nauseum, but if you want me to explain/give some examples, I can.

Stress..sorry, not much you can do about that. Hair loss is mostly genetic, anyway.

Thanks for the tips. Won't I become addicted on melatonin if I take it every night?

I am not balding but just losing more hair than usual. Like lesser hair volume.

is 30min of exercise per week even enough?

Had a similar encounter years ago and decided to change diet, get rid of excess weight, started running, went to the gym 3-4x/week and did slightly less work (ie came in few minutes later and left few minutes earlier - not too much so nobody bothered but I had 30-45 minutes more sleep each night).

Then my gf gave me tips how to look after my skin, hair etc.

People are now guessing I am between 23-26.

Downside: Senior management tends to ignore me more often these days because I look "too young".

BenedictPowers Then my gf gave me tips how to look after my skin, hair etc.

What advice did she give you about your skin?

1) eat clean (same what my personal trainer told me in regards to training) ie lots of vegetables, fruit, lots and lots of water and reduce fatty stuff. I used to love burgers and junk food but stopped entirely

2) blood circulation - either through exercise like running or massages

3) moved from gillette Mach 3/Fusion to safety razor adjustable with DE blades with different gel/soap and new aftershave - cleaner shave and better for skin

4) various moisturizer products but also simple stuff like Nivea, try what suits best for you

5) Avoiding A/C wherever possible, lots of fresh air and a limited amount of exposure to sun (not 0 but not getting fried either)

It worked.

NB: I don't smoke or drink. not sure if that affects skin in any way.

johndoe89All your points above are valid, and to a great extent common knowledge. The one that particularly stood out to me was #3 about changing my shaving blade. That's a great idea - care to elaborate a little bit on the products you're using?

The other thread mentioned above has some good information on shaving - unless we already have it somewhere it would be worth having a stand-alone item on this topic as I am sure many men here could benefit from that.

I predominantly use a Merkur Futur and a smaller Merkur travel double-edge razor and I am testing other brands (Parker and a vintage Gillette DE razor but also considering a Feather stainless steel one). My blades are: Merkur and Feather

It took me about 3-4 months to get the first perfect shaves in a reasonable amount of time and without irritating my skin. I tried shaving oils but didn't like it that much. I switched from mass-market shaving gel or foam (various brands) to natural products with aloe vera or tea tree oil ("Original source") and had the best results.

I have used various shaving knives ("cut-throat" razors) but to be honest I am too much in a hurry during the week to use them properly.

The positive side-effect is that double-edge razor blades are very affordable.

1- Choose non irritant shaving cream and aftershave, this means non scented and no soap.

2-Moisturize, moisturize , moisturize - You have no idea how much difference this makes

3-Wash your face a couple of times during the day with lukewarm water, and moisturize

4-Give yourself a lil scalp massage every day. Even if it's only for 2 minutes.

5-For the bags, drizzle some unsweetened coffee on a cotton pad, cover your eyes with them for 2-3 mins and watch them disappear.

6-Drink lots of water. A lot that it makes you want to pee a few times a day but not too much that it goes right through you. Your urine should be light -non fluorescent- Yellow. Any darker and you're dehydrated, any lighter and you're just diluting all the vitamins and minerals you are taking in.

7-A Table spoon of high quality fish oil a day - Miracles will happen

8- Don't eliminate fat from your diet, it will make your skin dry and crusty

9- Soda is the devil - Please avoid it

10- Cut back on alcohol, smoking, and salt

For keeping your weight down. Try to spread out your meals throughout the day, and don't eat meat at work, especially red meat. Try to eat your lunch early (11am) but only eat half, then save half for 3 pm. If you do that you'll be healthier. Also it helps you avoid the early afternoon crash. If you work late, same thing with dinner. Eat half at 6 and half at 10. Don't eat red meat. DON'T EAT RED MEAT. The amount of energy your body needs to break down red meat is ridiculously high. If you are working 100 hours a week and not sleeping a lot, cutting out red meat during the week is crucial. You can still eat it on weekends. Also, if you snack, try snacking on vegetables instead of fruits. More nutritious and less sugar. And 808 made a good point about tanning, if you're indoors all day/live in UK, tanning will make you happier.

The More You Know

Drink green tea helps with increasing your metabolism. Use Cetphail facial cleaner to clean up your face. Also buy some sort of facial scrubs and use it every other day when your taking a shower.

Stay away from Soda- high corn syrup means out body has hard digesting it. Also eat fruits or vegetables. Apple, any type of berries, peach plum, eat peanuts, almonds and stay away from white bread. Eat whole wheat or or whole grain bread, bagel pasta etc. Stay away from "white flour" ...Also exercise try to exercise at least three times a week doing cardio so your burning calories. When it comes to alcohol, don't drink Jack and Coke, long island ice tea or gin and tonic or anything that is sweet because it adds sugar. Also stay away from fruit juices have tons of sugar in it. And if you eat cereal make sure its less than 6 grams of sugar and has 7 grams or more of protein.

I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.

Skin care: La Mer, plain and simple. Its expensive, it's worth the money. There aren't any substitutes, and at the end of the day your skin is the most important thing for your looks. Use the Creme de la Mer and the La Mer face wash. Add an eye creme if you are still seeing bags under your eyes, use an eye creme, but if you are moisturizing on a regular basis, eye creme might not be necessary.

Diet is the most important aspect to staying in shape when you can't literally spend several hours in the gym. Realistically, you can work off anything you eat, but you have to have the time...which is not a luxury afforded most in the IB industry. Also, it's much easy to stuff 1,000 calories down your gullet than it is to work it off on a treadmill.

Hair loss? Well, that has little to do with work and more to do with genetics (as previously mentioned). If I'm not mistaken, hair loss is inherited from your mother's father...so look at a picture of his hair and you can probably determine where you will eventually end up.

As for skin care, the overview is cleanse your skin of the dirt and oil that buildup throughout the day and then moisturize. Shaving is going to be an important part for most guys (I don't generally shave, just use an electric hair trimmer to cut back growth every few days) so check out the threads people posted above and incorporate those points into your routine. Clean your face, open pores with hot towel, shave, close pores, moisturize. Maybe find something with SPF if you find yourself outside, exposed to the sun.

As much as we all like catching a tan, the sun will murder your skin. Anti-oxidants are a good way to fight the impact of the sun but being proactive and not allowing it to damage your skin is the best bet.

For anyone that questions just how dangerous the sun can be on your skin, check out this brief article and picture...

That picture is amazing...pretty much as close as you can get to a controlled experiment on skin damage due to sunlight.

The Biz Kidopinion on razors vs. electric shavers? heard the high quality electric shavers are better than razors for regular use

I get the best results when wet shaving, electric won't do it for me. My dad only uses electric shavers (Philips) all the time and he is very happy.

So I guess it depends..
