how hard is it to transfer banks in corporate banking

if you secure a FT job in corporate banking and are there as an analyst for a year-a year and a half, how hard is it to transfer to another bank. for context I'm curios if I took a position in a city I did not like, after toughing it out there for a year or so, could you transfer to another city/bank easily or is it hard due to lack of connections

I think the most important hurdle would be to have a good reason for switching - wanting to change cities (bigger market, closer to family, etc) and/or transfer to a different CB vertical are decent reasons. You'll have to be able to explain it to the recruiter/hiring manager in a way that doesn't make it sound like you're flaky or always looking for the next big thing.

Transferring internally is another option but that varies wildly bank-to-bank.

Additionally, you'll need to stand out against local talent in your desired area. What's the value that you bring to the table vs someone local? Why should the bank hire someone out of market? At this level, don't expect any sort of relocation package.

understandable. I wouldn’t be transferring because I wanted higher pay or was looking to take over a city,(although that sounds nice). i just want to make sure if I take a FT offer in a shitty little city that I don’t particularly enjoy, I still will have the opportunity to transfer to another bigger city. not be tied to that bank. This is a little far ahead thinking saying I don’t even have a FT offer now but would you suggest using a head hunter to move cities? do you have any experience with one? I haven’t heard much about their use but they seem perfect for this task.

this is not the new norm. people have always changes jobs, however, bouncing around is not perceived well by any company and it will hurt you in the long run unless you don't care what others think about your long term employability,
