COVID surges are happening in unvaccinated areas with Republican governors who won't enact any social distancing measures or lockdowns.  They are literally dying to own the libs.  Meanwhile highly vaccinated states are doing better.

(Someone is gonna try and "own" me by showing NY/NJ COVID deaths in March of 2020, but that was before the virus was completely preventable)

So no, you shouldn't have to worry!

I love how everyone is so quick to attack republicans for not getting the vaccine, but they simply ignore the mass non-vaccinated populations among racial minorities.  But I guess that's too racist to talk about in 2021 :/

Note: I'm not saying we should ignore republicans not getting the shot (I think everyone should get the vaccine), but it is simply political BS to weaponize the vaccine considering most GOP governors (including Trump himself) have endorsed the vaccine.

Also, that tweet is tone-deaf in that it literally mocks people for dying.

Doesn't matter what race or political orientation you are, COVID still kills.  My fiance's grandparents are communists, so basically the exact opposite of the FOX news types and they didn't get the vaccine, got sick, and now have health problems.  Hopefully this denial bullshit ends soon

It would be great if they stop politicizing the vaccine. Some folks on both sides won’t and now it will probably remain politicized.

I know people on both sides who have gotten it and not gotten for whatever their personal reasons are. But I see a much higher percentage of lower income minorities I grew up with completely against it and they are on both sides of the political fence.

I am not really clear on why the folks I know from that group not wanting it, but there is no question they don’t want it. I know some weren’t fond of being told they can get it in their barber shops, who ever or what organization said that.

I don’t think any governor will enact another lockdown. The economic damage is too much and some businesses barely made it through and couldn’t survive another.

Controversial

I moved to Maryland a month or two ago. Without giving too much of the location away, it's a very blue town with a strong mix of white/black trash and color-haired and tattooed weirdos (I'm one of the weirdos). Life is 95% normal here. The only thing that's a bit weird is seeing 5-10% of people masked up outside and 90% of Asians are masked outside. The Asian community appears to have used Covid as the opportunity to throw off the shackles of their forced Western mores and gone full-blown Asian. I'm not sure what it is exactly--maybe a surge of Asian pride or something? It's really bizarre. It's really odd to see the best educated and smartest people (Asian American community) collectively acting like deranged lunatics. I went on a date with a vaccinated Asian girl. It was outside. Her face mask remained on the entire time. Lunacy.

About 40% of people mask up inside; 10% outside. Beyond that, life is back to normal. It's really difficult for me to see lockdowns coming again. The American-style lockdown is simply not effective because it was half-assed. This place was closed but that place was open. All it did was obliterate the economy without actually stopping the virus. I just can't see that happening again. Neither Democrats nor Republicans have the stomach for that again, though there is a group of about 20% of Americans who are desperate for lockdowns. Lunatics.

Could be them recognizing that many Americans profile them as somebody who's more likely to bare virus, cause it originated in China, so they just trying to make you feel safe. And also, they don't consider it a big burden cause they're used to wearing masks or know people who are used to wearing masks, so they don't think it's a big deal to keep a mask on even if it's not required or not particularly useful (even if some of them believe so).

Why would you sign a year long lease elsewhere?

Banks might try to bring people back but you will probably have some amount of flexibility/you won't be forced until at least the spring or summer. Just hold firm that you're very uncomfortable being in the office if you don't want to move (this also means don't post pics of your Mexico vacation/EDC/any really crowded event)

I don't see another round of lockdowns.  I thought it would take 2-3 months for the "fuck this" factor to kick in for the American populous...it took more like 16 months, but that switch has been flipped and you're not going to get ppl to lockdown again - especially because it's clear that lockdowns accomplish fuck all.

The only thing that I could see pushing another lockdown is the Dems desperately trying to divert attention from their clusterfuck in Afghanistan.  "Forget about the Americans stuck in Afghanistan that the Taliban is using as bargaining chips and refusing to let fly back to the U.S., the lambda variant is going to kill everyone!! Never fear, though, that senile, old dottering fuck Joe Biden is going to save everyone by instituting national lockdowns.  He'll be addressing the nation tonight to lay out how super serial this is...please listen because if you're watching w/ CC it'll just read 'unintelligible."

Idk if I've really seen the fuck this factor being switched though. Journalists are writing articles with headlines like "Your child will wait for another child to die". That's a real article from CNN. Then there's the Oklahoma school board member who said kids will "commit murder" by coming to school. Maybe it's just because I'm in an extremely liberal area, but it seems like people have completely lost their ability to evaluate the situation, and the solution to every problem for them is a lockdown.

I don't live in a super liberal area anymore, but I see the stands full for sporting events in them.  I don't use the lib media or teachers' unions as proxies of what actual ppl are thinking.  Both are wildly disingenuous bad actors - COVID rates for the MSM and they've been lying and lying by omission about it for over a year, so they're just used to it.  The teachers have gotten used to their year-long paid vacations and would like to still be getting paid for sitting at home...apparently, having the same vacation schedule as an 8 year old isn't good enough for them.

They can try. But enough people know in this country that it's utter bullshit that I imagine a plurality of places won't comply. They'll never be able to force it like in Australia in the US because we have a 2nd Amendment and an armed populace will not take kindly to an attempted authoritarian police state.

I’ve noticed more and more people wearing masks in grocery stores.

honestly it should be a choice, and no one should feel pressured into it. If you want to take it, then great, take it. If you don't want too, then great, don't take it. Also, the government shouldn't force mask/vaccination requirements, it should be up to individual businesses.

We're entering the season for seasonal viruses, how long do you think there is until they shut everything down again? I already see a worryingly large amount of people actually asking to be preemptively locked down...

It's not a right question.  We never had a lockdown in the first place.  So it's physically not possible to have one "again".

And it depends where you live.  If you're in a southern, GOP controlled state, you probably won't have any more serious restrictions, but on the flip side you're way more likely to die.  If you live in a northeast blue state, or out west... well, vaccination rates are getting to where they need to be, so probably no more serious restrictions for those who are vaccinated, but with a far smaller chance of hospitalization or death.

In other words, what it should be.

And it depends where you live.  If you're in a southern, GOP controlled state, you probably won't have any more serious restrictions, but on the flip side you're way more likely to die.

Is this seriously still going around even in late 2021? It's been neck and neck between Northeastern and GOP states for a long time.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1109011/coronavirus-covid19-death-r…

Out of the top 10, 4 out of the top 10 are typically Republican states (worth noting that current governor of Louisana is a Dem).

If you live in a northeast blue state, or out west... well, vaccination rates are getting to where they need to be, so probably no more serious restrictions for those who are vaccinated, but with a far smaller chance of hospitalization or death.

So, if we adjust for the fact that the GOP states are lagging in vaccination rates to other parts of the country wouldn't my probability of survival be higher in a GOP state considering I am vaxxed?
